The AI Creators Project is a youth-focused 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to AI tools, creative technology, and future-ready learning for under-resourced students. Through hands-on workshops and community partnerships, we help young people build confidence, create meaningful projects, and discover new possibilities.

Team
Founded by Michael Tan.
Michael Tan is an AI product executive and the founder of the AI Creators Project. Anchored by his leadership as a Senior Director of Product Management for Agentic AI at Microsoft, he has architected and driven the adoption of enterprise-grade AI solutions for the world’s largest companies. His expertise bridges global product strategy with deep, hands-on orchestration across the generative AI ecosystem—engineering everything from dynamic applications and autonomous agents to complex AI-generated video and music.
Driven by his perspective as a parent of high schoolers at the International School, Michael launched the AI Creators Project to democratize access to elite AI education. His mission is to dismantle the barriers between the tech industry and the classroom, equipping students with the tools to transition from passive consumers of technology into confident, visionary AI builders.

What a workshop looks like
A welcoming path from first experiment to first app.
Workshops are designed to feel fun, safe, and achievable. Students begin with playful exploration, learn a few simple AI concepts, and then use what they discovered to design an app that addresses a problem they care about.

Welcome & Warm-Up
Students make quick introductions, try a playful AI icebreaker—such as turning their name into a superhero—and hear that this is a safe space to experiment with no wrong answers.

Mini Lesson: What Is AI?
A simple, kid-friendly introduction covers what AI can and cannot do, why it matters, and how students will use it that day. The goal is confidence, not theory.

Hands-On Exploration
Students play with creative tools—generating or remixing music, making a short animated video, or creating AI-assisted art and characters—while mentors circulate to help.

App Focus
Students see an app example, learn the basics of interfaces and AI-assisted features, brainstorm problems they care about, create a first draft, and revise it with mentor feedback.

Share & Celebrate
Students explain the problem they wanted to solve, show the app they created, and describe the steps they took. They leave inspired, intrigued, and excited to keep creating with AI.
